Insurance & Fees

What you'll actually pay

Insurance feels complicated — but for most people it comes down to three figures. Here's what they mean and how we make sure you always know exactly where you stand.

We're in-network with most major insurers:

United Healthcare
Aetna
Cigna
Anthem / BCBS
Health First

How in-network costs are structured

Your costs follow a sequence of thresholds — but you don't have to reach all of them. Most people stay in phase 1 or 2 the entire year. Some plans skip phase 1 entirely.

Phase 1·Deductible

The amount you pay out-of-pocket each year before your insurance starts covering sessions. Until you hit it, you pay the full in-network session rate — still much lower than out-of-network. Some plans have a $0 deductible for mental health — meaning you skip this phase entirely and go straight to your copay.

Example

If your deductible is $500 and a session costs $100, you'll pay $100/session until you've spent $500 total. After that, you're in the copay phase.

What we do

We call your insurer before your first session and confirm your exact deductible — and how much you've already met. You'll know your cost per session before you ever step in the door.

Phase 2·Copay / Coinsurance

Once your deductible is met, you pay either a fixed copay (e.g., $30 per session) or a coinsurance percentage (e.g., 20%). Insurance covers the rest. This is the most common phase for ongoing therapy.

Example

A $30 copay means every session is $30 — predictable, every time. Coinsurance of 20% means you pay 20% of the session rate, insurance pays 80%.

What we do

We'll confirm your exact copay or coinsurance amount before your first appointment. It won't change session to session unless your plan changes.

Phase 3·Out-of-Pocket Maximum

The most you will pay in a calendar year — across all deductibles, copays, and coinsurance combined. Once you hit it, your insurance covers 100% of covered services for the rest of the year. Most ACA-compliant plans include an out-of-pocket maximum, though some older employer-sponsored plans may not. That said, most people in therapy never reach it in a single year.

Example

With a $3,000 OOP max, once you've paid $3,000 total this year, every session after that costs you nothing.

What we do

We track your running out-of-pocket total throughout the year. When you're getting close to your max, we'll flag it — so you can plan your schedule accordingly.

Keep in mind

In-network and out-of-network costs are tracked separately

Most plans have different deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums for in-network vs. out-of-network care. Payments you make to out-of-network providers generally don't count toward your in-network deductible — and vice versa.

All your providers share the same deductible and OOP max

These aren't therapy-specific numbers — they apply across your entire plan. A doctor's visit, a lab test, or a specialist appointment all count toward the same deductible and out-of-pocket maximum as your therapy sessions.
